So, I decided to start a blog. I have long wanted to write in general, and more specifically a book, but I have never gotten motivated to do it. God prompted me to write something this morning during my quite time, and I decided that a blog was a perfect medium for that. My goal is to post here at least once a week of at least 200 words (I know that doesn’t sound like much, but it’s a start) I will post about a variety of things, but mostly things having to do with student ministry (students, ministry, families, parenting, etc.)
Now, on to the title. To make a long story short, I was leading a group of students and leaders on a mission trip in Savannah, Georgia almost 6 years ago when I went into the bathroom to brush my teeth after making sure all of my students were in bed after lights out. There were 2 feet visible in one of the bathroom stalls (hence the header picture at the top of the blog) This small voiced asked, “Are you my youth pastor? I need help.” Now, I don’t know about you, but this was out of the ordinary. I told him, that no, I wasn’t his youth pastor, but that yes, I would help him. This was followed by the sounds of someone in digestive distress (I’ll leave that part up to your imagination). I tried to get him to respond to my questions of what church he was with or what room he was in to no avail. I finally left the bathroom, collected some of the other youth pastors and we went room to room to figure out who was missing a student. No one was! When I and three other youth pastors went back to the bathroom the student was gone, but the smell told them I hadn’t dreamed it.
Hence, the name of the blog. One of the most memorable and strangest nights in my career in student ministry (and consequently inspiration for the title)
